Global Aggies Blog: Stingless Honey Bee Conservation and Eco-cultural Health in Colombia
Alejandra Cano, a Ph.D. candidate in Native American Studies, participated in the UC Davis Grad Grants program in Colombia to integrate Traditional Ecological Knowledge with stingless bee conservation. Collaborating with the Embera community, she helped revitalize eco-cultural practices and gained valuable insights into decolonial environmental approaches and cross-cultural collaboration.

UC Davis Study Abroad Awards
Study Abroad Award applications are open for UC Davis students participating in summer and fall 2025 programs. Awards are $500–$2,000. Watch our recent Award Writing Workshop to learn how to improve your chances of winning an award. Award application deadline is February 18 for Summer Abroad and March 4 for Quarter Abroad.
University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP)
2025-26 UCEAP program applications are now open. Application open dates and deadlines vary by program, beginning in winter quarter. UCEAP programs offer UC credit and financial aid. Program options include immersion, special focus, language and culture, and internships. Find a program.
UCEAP Global Scholarship
To make study abroad accessible to all UC students, UCEAP awards the UCEAP Global Scholarship. The scholarships range from $1,000 for summer to $2,000 for fall, spring or academic year programs. You could be one of over 500 students selected for a Global Scholarship. UCEAP Scholarship applications close in winter quarter for 2025-26 programs.
UCEAP Exploring Your Identity Abroad Workshops
This series is a collaborative effort between all the University of California campuses and UCEAP to provide identity-based study abroad workshops, panels and information sessions for students across the UC system.
Global Leadership, Internships, and Research
UC Davis Widening Circles Program
June 23–August 22. This fully-funded online program pairs an online curriculum focused on ethical global engagement with a social impact internship, volunteer opportunity, research or project—either abroad or at home. Undergraduate students apply here. Graduate students apply through the Global Grad Grant. Info Session: February 20, 11 a.m.–12 p.m. Deadline: March 16.
Become a Global Ambassador Mentor Fellow
Join a globally minded cohort of diverse students and build career skills. Mentor fellows provide peer mentorship to incoming international students, develop programming, build intercultural leadership skills and contribute to the global community at UC Davis. Open to current undergraduates. Participants are eligible for a $500 payment. Apply. Extended Deadline: February 18.
Global Affairs UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) Internship
This internship provides an opportunity during spring quarter 2025 for UC Davis undergraduate students to actively contribute to campus engagement on the SDGs, gaining knowledge of organizational strategy, campus and external coordination, and communications and analytical skills to support this global agenda. Deadline: March 14.
Universitas 21 Global Citizens Program
March 10–28. Free for UC Davis undergraduate and graduate students, this online leadership program gives students the opportunity to develop skills needed to thrive in the 21st century while tackling the world’s pressing problems outlined in the UN SDGs. Apply. Info session: February 13, 11 a.m.–12 p.m. Deadline: February 19.
APRU Undergraduate Leaders Program
July 20–August 2. Join this two-week immersive experience in Chile to develop your capacity as a leader. Students will gain an understanding of the Pacific Rim's complex political, economic, social and cultural dynamics—emphasizing the Latin American perspective. Program fees will be covered. Apply. Info session: February 12, 12–1 p.m. Deadline: February 23.
Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Global Connect Fellowship
July 1–August 31. Conduct research at NTU Singapore through the Global Connect Fellowship. Students pursuing their bachelor's or master's, preferably in STEM, with an interest in pursuing research and Ph.D. at NTU are eligible. Fellowship amount: ~$3,600. Contact Kimberly Bellows by February 13 to be nominated or apply individually by February 28.
STEAM Innovations
March 15–May 15. STEAM Innovations is a fully funded, eight-week virtual exchange for undergraduates interested in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math). Participants come from Algeria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the U.S. Designed to empower participants with the tools necessary for navigating future STEAM careers, this program enhances cross-cultural understanding. Apply. Deadline: February 28.
APRU SDG Education for Global Citizenship Program
June 2–August 29. This is a hybrid program focused on the UN Sustainable Development Goals pairing online work around the theme of “Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity: Actions for Sustainability,” with one week of travel to Malaysia or Thailand. Undergraduate and master’s students are eligible. Apply. Deadline: February 21.
Competitions, Challenges, and Funding
Global Aggies Award for LGBTQIA+ Rights
This award supports UC Davis student global learning and engagement regarding issues LGBTQIA+ communities and individuals face around the world. This includes research or creative work, internships/externships or other projects that advance the rights and/or well-being of LGBTQIA+ people globally. Awards up to $2,500. Deadline: February 26.
Gilman International Scholarship Program
The Gilman Scholarship provides up to $5,000 for Federal Pell Grant recipients to participate in international study abroad and internship programs. Learn about the eligibility requirements, application process and how to become a competitive applicant (Info Session: February 21; Alumni Panel: February 18; Essay Review Drop-In: February 24 & 27). Deadline: March 6.
Toshizo Watanabe Study Abroad Scholarship Program
This scholarship provides financial assistance to American undergraduate or graduate students for a semester or year-long study abroad program in Japan. Applicants must be in good standing and will participate in a credit-bearing program. Deadline: February 21.
Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF)
TAPIF fellows receive a monthly stipend to teach for seven months in France. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and permanent residents, aged 20-35, with a bachelor’s degree by the program start, and who speak French at B1 level or above. Deadline: February 28.
Phi Kappa Phi Scholarship for Study Abroad
Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are $1,000 awards designed to help support undergraduates as they study abroad. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher, participating in a study abroad program May 1, 2025–June 30, 2026. Apply. Deadline: March 15.
APRU Global Health Virtual Case Competition
Teams of three–six students will receive a challenge relating to a pressing global health problem and have up to 12 weeks to propose a solution. The winning team will be announced at the 2025 APRU Global Health Conference and receive $1,000 prize. Teams must be registered by April 19.
The Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholarship for Public Service
Voyager Scholarships gives college students who plan to pursue a career in public service up to $50,000 in financial aid to alleviate the burden of college debt, meaningful travel experiences to expand their horizons and a network of mentors and leaders to support them. Apply. Deadline: April 1.
Experiential Learning Award
This award supports undergraduate students participating in unpaid experiential learning (internships, research, community service, etc.). Funding will be approximately $4,500. Students are required to participate in a weekly professional development seminar during both summer sessions. Apply. Deadline: April 3.
Freeman–ASIA Scholarship
This award supports undergraduate students with financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, demonstrate financial need through FAFSA, have a minimum 2.8 GPA, and have little or no previous experience in the study abroad country. Apply. Deadline: April 1.

Join us for an interactive session designed for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AA/PI) students interested in studying abroad. “Student Stories: Exploring AA/PI Experiences in Global Learning” will showcase the unique experiences of AA/PI students who've tackled the ups and downs of living and learning in different cultures.
Humphrey Fellow Ignite Talks
February 21, 2–4 p.m. International House Community Room, 10 College Park. The 2024-25 UC Davis Humphrey Fellows will give dynamic 3-5-minute TED Talk-styled presentations to showcase their work and lives in their home countries and express their thoughts on important issues. Register.

Visual Journals 2010–2024
Now through April 25, Design Museum in Cruess Hall and the International Center Lobby. Visual Journals 2010–2024, is an engaging exhibition that brings together visual journals belonging to students who participated in the UC Davis Design study abroad program.
UC Davis Global Learning Conference
April 5, 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., International Center. This conference provides learning opportunities to articulate and market your global perspective/experience, network, develop your resume and cover letter, learn from seasoned professionals in various fields, connect with peers, and explore resources and opportunities for your future.
