In this immersive course, you'll explore the biology of bacteria, archaea, lower eukaryotes, and viruses while tracing the breakthroughs that shaped modern microbiology—from the foundations of infectious disease research to the roles microbes play in biotechnology, agriculture, and environmental systems. You'll study in the very labs and academic traditions that helped define the field, in a city founded in 1425 and known today for its vibrant, student-centered energy, rich culture, and welcoming English-speaking community. Beyond the classroom, weekly excursions across Belgium—including the storybook canals of Bruges and the dramatic river valley of Dinant—turn this into more than a science course. It's an unforgettable summer of discovery, on every level.
