Accommodations
Zurich, Switzerland: one-night hotel stay in shared double rooms with en-suite bathrooms.
Locarno, Switzerland: Youth hostel in shared rooms—double, triples, quads with en-suite bathrooms. The location is within easy walking access to all festival sites.
Cannes, France: Student residence steps from the famous beaches of Cannes on the French Riviera. Rooms are shared doubles with en-suite bathrooms.
UC Davis reserves the right to change the accommodation location. Should this be necessary, we will arrange alternative lodging. Please note that elevators, air conditioners and other modern conveniences may not be available in all locations.
Meals
The program includes welcome and farewell meals and typically a couple select group meals. Breakfast is provided at all three accommodations. In Locarno, most dinners are provided at the youth hostel. For lunch you are able to explore the local restaurants, cafes, groceries, and take-away options. In Cannes, all meals are provided at the student residence in their student restaurant. You are responsible for your meals outside of those provided by the program.
Excursions and Activities
The program provides a full pass to the Locarno Film Festival in Locarno, Switzerland. It’s an international festival, usually regarded as the most important between the Cannes festival in May and the Venice festival in September. Like those two festivals, it is in a very scenic location: Locarno is in the picturesque "lake region" of southern Switzerland/northern Italy, near Lakes Lugano and Como (where the original Bellagio is).
The program also provides a walking and/or sightseeing tour in Zurich, Locarno and Cannes, as well as a day-trip by bus along the French Riviera and Monaco. Other previous excursions have included a visit to the Swiss Alps (to a mountain top), to Bellinzona (with 3-UN designated castles), and a ferry ride on Lake Maggiore.
Get to Know Your Destination
Zurich, Switzerland is your entry to the program to make arrival to Europe convenient. The following afternoon, the group then transfers by bus from Zurich to Locarno, Switzerland for the film festival. After the festival, the group transfers by bus from Locarno to Cannes, France.

Participation in this UC Davis Study Abroad program requires travel to and extended living in a foreign location(s) abroad. UC Davis Study Abroad endeavors to reduce and mitigate risk wherever possible. However, the environments and risks associated with living in these locations are substantially different than those found during a regular course of study at UC Davis. All participants must download and review the following information prior to departure. Any questions should be directed to the Program Coordinator.
