Accommodations
Students will live with host families. Homestay accommodation includes daily breakfast and dinner, once a week laundry, a private room, and internet access. Most homestays are walking distance from placements, but students may also choose to use public transportation. Commute time from housing to placements will depend on traffic and may be up to 25 minutes one way.
UC Davis reserves the right to change the accommodation location. Should this be necessary, we will arrange alternative lodging. Please note that elevators, air conditioners and other modern conveniences may not be available in all locations.
Meals
A group welcome dinner and farewell dinner are included in the program fee.
Excursions & Activities
Short excursions, day trips, and one overnight trip will be included as part of the program. Past program excursions and activities have included:
- Arenal Volcano and La Fortuna Waterfall (overnight)
- La Paz (day trip)
- Volcan Irazu (day trip)
- Cost Rican cooking class
- Other cultural and social activities
Get to Know Your Destination
Wander historic neighborhoods such as Barrio Amón, where historic buildings have been converted into contemporary art galleries, and Barrio Escalante, the city's gastronomic epicenter. Stroll with Saturday shoppers at the farmers market, join the Sunday crowds in Parque La Sabana, dance the night away to live music at one of the city's vibrant clubs, or visit the museums of gold, jade, art and natural history, and you'll begin to understand the multidimensional appeal of Costa Rica's largest city and cultural capital.

Study Abroad Advisory of Student Risk
Participation in this UC Davis Study Abroad program requires travel to and extended living in a foreign location(s) abroad. UC Davis Study Abroad endeavors to reduce and mitigate risk wherever possible. However, the environments and risks associated with living in these locations are substantially different than those found during a regular course of study at UC Davis. All participants must download and review the following information prior to departure. Any questions should be directed to the Program Coordinator.
