Summer Internships in Japan - Placements

Business and Communication

Each UC Davis Summer Abroad Internship program pairs UC Davis Study Abroad with a partner organization that manages the personalized internship placements; arranges accommodations and excursions; leads onsite orientations and optional social events; and provides 24/7 emergency support. As part of the placement process for Summer Internships, participants will first enroll through UC Davis Study Abroad and then complete a supplemental application for the partner organization associated with their particular Summer Internship program.

Summer Abroad Japan - Travel

The Design Japan program includes pre-departure and on-site orientations, requires participants to arrange their own travel and obtain a passport, provides transportation and health insurance, and advises on the limited protections for LGBTQIA+ travelers while encouraging consultation with the U.S. Department of State for travel safety.

Summer Abroad Japan - Cost

The Design Japan program offers financial aid eligibility, covers various program fees including accommodations, meals, transportation, and health insurance, while advising students that total costs may vary and personal expenses are not included in the program fees.

Summer Abroad Japan - On Site

The Design Japan program offers centrally located accommodations in Tokyo and Kyoto, includes breakfast and select lunches, features excursions to various cultural and historical sites, and emphasizes the unique blend of modern and traditional experiences in Japan while advising students on potential risks associated with studying abroad.

Marc Ishisaka-Nolfi is a continuing Lecturer in the Department of Design at the University of California at Davis.

Summer Abroad Japan - Courses

UC Davis Summer Abroad Japan offers students the opportunity to earn units over the summer through immersive coursework, enhanced by local excursions, guest lectures and reflective assignments.

Based in Tokyo and Kyoto, this program explores Japan’s design culture and includes visits to castles, temples, and unique museums.
