Global Aggies Blog: From Local Roots to Global Goals—Advancing Sustainability Through Agrivoltaics

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Kelly Mae Heroux, a third-year grad student in Soils and Biogeochemistry, received a Global Grad Grant to tackle food insecurity through agrivoltaics and community service. Her work bridges local action with global goals, fostering sustainable solutions and collaboration in Yolo County.

UC Davis Widening Circles Program

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​June 23–August 22. This fully-funded online program pairs an online curriculum focused on ethical global engagement with a social impact internship, volunteer opportunity, research or project—either abroad or at home. Undergraduate students apply here. Graduate students apply through the Global Grad Grant. Deadline: March 16.

UC Davis Global Impact Fellows Program

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Global Impact Fellows Program is a one-year commitment to leading or assisting a student-led initiative that addresses a global+local issue where students can hone project management, leadership and specific technical skills in an environment where they have real autonomy. UC Davis Graduate Student and Postdoc Certificate Series

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This series is open to graduate students and postdocs. Participants can register for workshops with an emphasis on skill development in DEI or intercultural teaching and learning for success in intercultural work environments. Workshops can be combined toward a certificate from Global Affairs. Register.

U21 School for Sustainable Policy Leadership 2025

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​June 9–13. Lund University, Sweden. Gain hands-on experience and practical insights into global sustainability challenges and solutions through this free program with keynote lectures, workshops, field visits, case study analysis and project collaboration. AROP Research Fellowships for PhD Candidates and Postdocs

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Advanced Research Opportunities Program (AROP) offers fellowships to doctoral candidates and postdocs from international universities for research stays at RWTH Aachen. It provides stipends, travel grants, language classes and intercultural training. The program strengthens bilateral ties with international institutions for long-term collaborations. Deadline: March 31.

Amrita Live-In-Labs

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Join this multidisciplinary experiential learning program that facilitates the research, development and deployment of sustainable solutions for current challenges faced by rural communities in India. Open to undergraduate and master's students. Tuition fees are waived, and accommodations and food are reduced for UC Davis students. Contact Chelsey Hawes for more information.

Competitions, Challenges, and Funding

UC Davis Global Grad Grants

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Graduate and professional students can apply for this funding opportunity to participate in a globally focused social impact program or research opportunity in summer 2025. Grants cover the $500 program fee and a $2,000 travel grant to support activities and travel. Apply. Deadline: March 16.

Peter and Marion London Global Learning Innovation Award

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This award supports an annual project led by one or more UC Davis students who will partner with Nepali and/or Tibetan students on a project with a strong public benefit related to sustainable development for disadvantaged communities. Award amount up to $4,500. Deadline: April 11.

UC Davis Eivind G. Lange '77 and Mary G. Puma Graduate Fellowship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This fellowship supports graduate students conducting research in Chile in partnership with the UC Davis Chile Life Sciences Innovation Center. The fellowship award is limited to a maximum of $4,000. Fellowship to be completed before December 31, 2025. Deadline: May 31.

Graduate Studies Travel Awards

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This award supports graduate students’ travel to present their research at meetings of nationally and internationally recognized professional societies twice annually. Each award period covers nine months for future conferences and three months for conferences that have already occurred. ApplyDeadline: March 14.

Chicana/Latina Foundation Scholarships

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Chicana Latina Foundation awards $1,500 merit-based scholarships to Latina college students. Applicants must be women of Chicana/Latina heritage, have lived in an eligible Northern California county for two years, be enrolled full-time and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater. Apply. Deadline: March 31.

APRU Global Health Virtual Case Competition

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Teams of three–six students will receive a challenge relating to a pressing global health problem and have up to 12 weeks to propose a solution. The winning team will be announced at the 2025 APRU Global Health Conference and receive a $1,000 prize. Teams must be registered by April 19.

Intercultural Communication Workshop

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​March 11, 4–5:30 p.m. At this session, participants will define culture and understand skills critical to intercultural learning and communication, analyze how one’s own culture affects one's communication style and preferences, and reflect on other’s communication norms and preferences. This is part of the Graduate Student and Postdoc Certificate Series. ⁠Register.

Story Circles for Community Connection

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​March 18, 5–7 p.m., International House Davis. This community listening and sharing event provides a space to build empathy and connection by coming together to tell our stories and learn from one another. This event is open to everyone. Managing Conflict in Intercultural Spaces Workshop

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​April 15, 4–5:30 p.m. In this session, participants will reflect on one’s own conflict style and how cultural norms and context contribute to conflict. Participants will also analyze and troubleshoot different conflict scenarios relevant to graduate and professional students and postdoctoral scholars. This is part of the Graduate Student and Postdoc Certificate Series. Register.

Communicating with Compassion: Transforming Microaggressions into Global Understanding

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​April 30, 4:15–5:45 p.m. At this session, participants will define micro-aggressions and understand how they perpetuate stereotypes and discrimination. Participants will also identify strategies for addressing and reducing the impact of micro-aggressions. This is part of the Graduate Student and Postdoc Certificate Series. Register.
